Best Beaches Near Inverness, FL
Inverness is the ideal oasis. Just 70 miles northwest of Orlando, it’s close to the action without being bustling and crowded. Full of rolling farm country, lakes, and natural springs, Inverness is the ideal place to relax. If you’re looking for a day’s getaway to the beach, here are some of the most relaxing spots to sunbathe or wave-dive:
Hernando Beach is only five miles north of downtown Inverness, so a quick car ride or even bike ride will get you here. If you’re looking for a break from the salt water, this is a great retreat. It lies along the shores of Tsala Apopka Lake, which is actually a chain of lakes within a bend of the Withlacoochee River.
Fort Island Gulf Beach has white-sand shores right on the Gulf of Mexico. It’s only about 10 miles west of Crystal River, “Home of the Manatee.” During wintertime, manatees seek warmer waters in the rivers between Crystal River and Fort Island. So you might just see a loveable sea creature here!
Weeki Wachee Springs lies on Florida’s only spring-fed water park, Buccaneer Bay. Here, you can catch a performance by Weeki Wachee’s famous “mermaids.” But the mermaids and the underwater theatre aren’t the only attraction. The Buccaneer Bay complex has flume rides, a lazy river, and a kiddie pool.
Just inland from the Gulf, Pedersen Park is a perfect destination for families. There’s a fishing pier, a beach on the creek, and a 40-foot observation tower giving you stunning views of the Gulf to the west. This is another spot favored by manatees during the winter months and has an activity center and playground for the kids.
